Happy Book Birthday: Reel by Kennedy Ryan

Reel by Kennedy Ryan

Kennedy Ryan is back with a new romance book series, y’all! Dubbed Hollywood Renaissance, I expect this new cast of characters and love stories to be quite dramatic.

First to take center stage is Reel, a workplace romance between film director Canon Holt and actress Neevah Saint. She’s fresh from Broadway, a small fish in a massive star-studded pond, and he’s a household name. With fame, however, comes the limelight and those who shine the brightest also attract the most attention.

Neevah’s turn in Canon’s Harlem Renaissance biopic is her ticket to the big time but when the connection between a star and her director is palpable people talk. As the old saying goes, everything that glitters ain’t gold, and the heady rush of newfound fame only lasts but so long.

While Canon’s career is secure, Neevah’s is just beginning. A forbidden romance may be intoxicating but is it really worth her dreams going up in smoke? Or are the sparks flying between her and Canon the kind meant to last forever?

I’m more than a little excited for Ryan’s latest release and ready to fall head over heels along with this couple.

Official summary (via Goodreads):

Award-Winning Wall Street Journal Bestselling author Kennedy Ryan launches a brand new series with a Hollywood tale of wild ambition, artistic obsession, and unrelenting love.

One moment in the spotlight.

For months I stood by, an understudy waiting in the wings,
preparing for my time to shine.
I never imagined he would watch in the audience that night.
Canon Holt.
Famous film director.
Fascinating. Talented. Fine.
Before I could catch my breath, everything changed.
I went from backstage Broadway to center stage Hollywood.
From being unknown, to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyone’s lips.
Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic,
catapulting me into another stratosphere.

But stars shine brightest in the dead of night.
Forbidden attraction, scandal and circumstances beyond my control jeopardize my dream.
Could this one shot—the role of a lifetime, the love of a lifetime—cost me everything?

Reel is available now in print and e-book format.

News Buzz: Kennedy Ryan’s All The King’s Men book series is coming to TV

Kennedy Ryan’s All the King’s Men book series (from left to right: The King Maker, The Rebel King, and Queen Move)

Y’all, had I known the TV rights for Kennedy Ryan‘s All The King’s Men series had been acquired at the beginning of April, I’d have been gushing about this news in my book spotlight post for Queen Move. I’d say alas, but I’m so happy I came across the news thanks to Fangirlish that I don’t even care that I’m late to the party.

According to Variety, the books that introduced audiences to the love stories of Lennix and Maxim, and Ezra and Kimba, have been acquired by The Traveling Picture Show Company to be adapted into a limited series. The deal also includes Ryan’s Hoops series which means fans will be treated to two limited series based on Ryan’s work!

All the King’s Men is steeped in politics. Lennix and Kimba are kingmakers with set on putting the right people in power. Candidates who care about pay equity, Native rights, missing indigenous women, voter suppression, climate change, and progressive policies that will push the nation forward.

Maxim, with his pedigree and ambition doesn’t simply want a shot at the throne, he wants it all. To be a leader of men and the man Lennix loves despite the troubled past between their families. Ezra is a teacher and administrator who runs a school for disadvantaged children. He’s a pillar of his community. He’s also Kimba’s best friend from childhood who wants a second chance at the love their parents’ fall out stole from them.

In contrast, the Hoops series deals in the competitive world of professional basketball. These sports romances are as much about what’s happening on the court as they are off. The NBA is the big league, but so is love. The stakes are high but the reward is worth it if you fight for what’s yours.

I’ve only read one book from each series, Long Shot and Queen Move, so I only have one-third of each universe to speculate about but this announcement definitely has me considering reading the other four books, especially the All the King’s Men duet.

Are you excited about All the King’s Men and Hoops coming to the small screen? Which romance are you anxious to see be adapted for television?

News Buzz is a blog feature dedicated to entertainment news that’s got me all atwitter with excitement.

Book spotlight: Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan

Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan

After a year of seeing Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan be praised online, including being recommended by romance authors Sarah MacLean (Brazen and the Beast) and Talia Hibbert, I’ve finally read the book. Though I should note this is after unintentionally going on a bit of a second chance romances and best friends to lovers trope binge.

Over the course of March, and part of April, I read Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan, A Reunion of Rivals and Waking Up Married by Reese Ryan, which was capped off by Queen Move as a one-two love punch containing both tropes.

I have to say I’m glad my reading tastes took me on that journey because Ezra and Kimba’s love story is definitely one of the best I’ve ever read.

Ryan takes readers on a journey that dips in and out of the past to the present day. The moments we spend with these two as kids cements the bond they have with such tenderness and romance.

Queen Move is an epic best friends to lovers romance

I found myself getting choked up over Kimba and Ezra no matter what age they were in the story because the love they share is so deep and boundless. Though that’s not to say they don’t face obstacles along the way.
